New Sleep Routine – Night 2

I should start with a small mea culpa. Daycare may not have been exaggerating THAT much about Emma being sick. I wouldn’t say she’s sick, but she’s definitely not feeling well. And that throws all my bedtime plans out the window.

When we got home from daycare (around noon), she played for a little bit but then I insisted we both take a nap and she slept for almost three hours. Such a long nap could interfere with bedtime, but it’s countered by the fact she’s not feeling great and needs more sleep, right? On the other hand, her sickness seems to come and go, and she spent the majority of the evening playing and jumping on daddy. Hardly an invalid!

We did her bedtime routine with absolutely no resistance or complaint from her. She laid down in her crib just fine, but as soon as I started to leave, she jumped up and started crying. I turned around only once to tell her to lie down and that she’s a big girl and crying for me won’t help. She needs to sleep, goodnight.

She has now been crying for about 10 minutes but seems to be settling down, which is a huge improvement over last night. I’m torn between wanting to coddle her while she’s sick and trying to remember that she’s not THAT sick and she might just be playing me.

We’ll see how long it takes tonight…
